*Regulated Businesses include Auctioneers, Pawnbrokers, tobacco retail establishments, tattoo and/or body piercing establishments, after hours establishments, massage establishments, scrap dealers and secondhand dealers. This does not eliminate any other city/county/state/permitting requirements.

The Police Department is open to the public for fingerprinting City of Maricopa Regulated Business Licensing applicants, agents, and employees.

  • Auctioneers
  • Pawnbrokers
  • Tobacco retail establishments
  • Tattoo and/or body piercing establishments
  • After-hours establishments
  • Massage establishments
  • Scrap dealers and secondhand dealers

Fingerprinting appointments are required. The applicant needs to call the Police Records Unit at 520-316-6800 option #2 to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

The applicant needs to bring the following to their fingerprinting appointment-

  • Money order or cashier’s check $22 (Made payable to Arizona Department of Public Safety)
  • Government issued photo ID (Driver’s license, passport, etc)

Applicants must apply for a Regulated Business License online prior to scheduling a fingerprinting appointment. If assistance is needed to create an account or apply for a license online, please call 520-316-6920 or email dsd@maricopa-az.gov.

AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) may take up to 8 weeks to process the fingerprints. DPS will mail the results of the fingerprint-based criminal history check to the Police Department. The Police Department will conduct an investigation of the application and background of the applicant and proposed licensee. The Police Department will then recommend the approval or denial of the license (via Smartgov workflow) to the Permit Center. The Permit Center will contact the applicant with the next steps in the regulated business license application process.
